There are three different types of Status in the game. Status (Sabbat), Status (Pack), and Status (Chihuahua)
Status (Sabbat) is determined by the character's position, with a few variables thrown in. Characters with Prestigious Sires typically have a higher Status (Sabbat) than normal. Characters with powerful Mentors also have a higher Status (Sabbat) than normal. Those with Infamous Sires or no Mentors tend to have lower Status (Sabbat). Status (Sabbat) is purchased at Character Creation, but must fit the character history and concept.
Status (Pack) is representative of the character's standing in his own pack. The chosen Priest and Ductus both start with 4 dots in Status; all other characters start with Status (Pack) equal to their starting Status (Sabbat) rating. If the Priest and Ductus both agree, they may adjust a character's Status (Pack) rating up or down at their leisure. At any time, the Priest or Ductus may submit to the other, granting the victor Status (Pact) 5, and with it the unilateral ability to adjust the Status (Pack) rating of any Pack members.
Status (Pack) rating is added to any Leadership rolls to inspire pack members to pursue your chosen course of action.
Status (Chihuahua) is representative of the character's standing in the Archibishop's court. The Archbishop is the ultimate authority of Status (Chihuahua), but those Ducti who have the Archbishop's ear may make temporary adjustments to Status (Chihuahua). All characters start the game with Status (Chihuahua) equal to their Status (Sabbat) rating. The chosen Ductus and Priest will gain a +1 bonus to this rating.
Monomancy
In order for a challenge to Monomancy to be respected, you must be within one point (or higher) of Status (pack) or Status (chihuahua) of the vampire you are challenging. If that is not the case, you must have equal to or higher Status (Sabbat). Otherwise, they may dismiss your challenge without loss of face.
Ignoring a respected challenge results in the immediate reduction of one dot in Status (Sabbat), and will likely result in reduction in Status (Chihuahua) or Status (Pack).
